9 Questions with Tecumseh’s Haley Mansell – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Potawatomi

Tecumseh’s Haley Mansell

VYPE: Haley, what grade are you in and what position do you play in softball?

Haley Mansell: I’m a junior and I play outfield. Mainly center in fastpitch and left in slow-pitch.

VYPE: What do you love most about your team and teammates?

HM: I love most how close our team is. It’s truly like working with your best friends every day!

VYPE: Who inspires you?

HM: Jayda Coleman inspires me. She puts her faith first and plays to honor God. Also, how amazing of an outfielder she is. She is an inspiration to become as good as her. Her career as a whole is an inspiration to many.

VYPE: What’s the strength of your game and what are you looking to improve?

HM: My strength in softball is fielding, I have gotten really good at reading hard balls, and robbing homeruns. I’m working to improve hitting the ball where the defense is not.

VYPE: What does representing THS mean to you?

HM: My older siblings all went to Tecumseh, and being the youngest of four. Representing Tecumseh means I’m representing my family, and to make them proud.

VYPE: What is the toughest aspect of playing the outfield?

HM: The toughest part about outfield is trusting your other teammates to tell you how far the fence is and reading the fence. Another thing that is hard is anticipating the balls movement. This is just something that you get better with as you get older.

VYPE: What former or current teammate left an impression on you?

HM: Cadence Leba has been an inspiration as she is my best friend and inspires me every day, but also the way she carriers herself so maturely on and off the field. Remaining levelheaded is a key factor to the game.

VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?

HM: I would like to peruse nursing and specialize in NICU nursing. I would also like to peruse a college softball career at the same time.

VYPE: If you were stranded on an island, who would you want with you?HM: If I were stranded on an island, I would want Bear Grylls for building stuff, Jane Goodall for animal knowledge, and the Rock for strength and protection.
