Tecumseh’s Madison Gifford – Cheerleader Spotlight – Presented by Outlaw Medical

Tecumseh High School junior Madison Gifford brings leadership, positivity and a strong work ethic to the cheer team, but her influence reaches beyond the sidelines.

Gifford said her mother has shaped the way she approaches both athletics and life.

“My mom inspires me. She is a hard worker and always does her best to be at all of my activities and my siblings’ activities. She also always tries to show kindness to others, share the love of Jesus through the way she treats people, and look for the positives in every situation. She has taught me to work hard, support the people I love, and always try to be a kind and caring person.”

Those values guide Gifford in her role on the cheer squad. She sees her responsibility as more than performing routines or developing skills. She focuses on helping teammates feel supported and motivated throughout the year.

“My job on the cheer team is to encourage the other girls and be a leader. I try to always support my teammates and help keep everyone motivated.”

For Gifford, the relationships built through cheer are among the most meaningful parts of the experience. The time spent training and competing together has created lasting connections with her teammates.

“I enjoy all of the friendships I have made with the girls on the team. We spend so much time together, and they have become some of my closest friends.”

Cheerleading requires a year-round commitment, and Gifford embraces the work it takes to prepare for each season.

“Cheer really has no off-season! We work year-round on improving our skills, learning new things, and preparing for the next season. It takes a lot of time and commitment, but I enjoy getting to work with my teammates and coaches throughout the year.”

Outside of cheer, Gifford has spent 13 years dancing competitively at Grace Dance Center. She also participates in Beta Club, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Youth Alive. In the community, she volunteers in the nursery at Home Church Tecumseh.

Gifford said athletics has reinforced an important lesson about perseverance.

“Athletics has taught me to always work hard, especially when things get tough. There are times when things don’t go the way you want them to, but you have to keep working, stay positive, and not give up.”
