Shawnee High School libero Parker Lilley is heading into her freshman year with a clear vision for what she wants this volleyball season to look like and the work it will take to get there. After a summer spent in the gym and with her teammates, Lilley said she feels prepared and excited to step onto the varsity court for the Lady Wolves.
“Summer workouts have been very helpful and fun this summer! I am so excited to compete this season in volleyball. I think it is going to be a very successful season for us this year and I am excited to see what we can do.”
On the floor, Lilley anchors the back row as a libero, a role that plays directly into her strengths as a defender and passer. “I am a libero and am pretty quick on my feet, accurate with my passing and I can run down balls. I want to improve on my setting skills this season.”
She believes Shawnee has the pieces to put together a memorable run if the team brings energy and confidence every day. “I think the team is going to achieve great things this year through the season we are going to be a loud fun team. This season I think we will shock a lot of people and teams. Our goal will be to make state.”
Her message to the team is simple; trust one another.
“Coming into this season my message to the team is to be confident in each other, trust one another, work hard and show up to practice. Bring energy every day and let’s make this our best season yet.”
Lilley’s commitment extends beyond team practices. “My No. 1 priority this summer has been staying in the gym. I enjoy doing cardio and weights. I try to stay consistent and not slack to keep up in sports. I feel my best when I have done workouts for the day.”
She looks up to college basketball star Caitlin Clark as a model for confidence and work ethic, and she hopes to continue her own athletic and academic journey at the next level. “I am going into my freshman year. My goal is to play volleyball in college and study marine biology.”
Grateful for her parents’ support and mindful of her role as an underclassman, Lilley said she wants to stay positive and vocal on the court while helping younger players feel confident in their own growth.
