Bethel High School’s varsity softball program has set a high standard, and head coach Gary Bandy believes this year’s Lady Wildcats have the talent and work ethic to keep the program trending upward. Coming off a 32-7 season in his second year at the helm, Bandy points to a mix of veteran leadership and emerging young talent as the foundation for another strong run.
In the middle of it all is shortstop Bailey Tucker, a right-handed power hitter who has committed to play college softball at the University of Tulsa. Bandy said Tucker’s presence up the middle and in the heart of the lineup gives Bethel a reliable spark on both sides of the ball. He added that Tucker’s college commitment is “a reflection of the work she’s put in and the standard she helps set for everyone around her”.
In the circle, the Lady Wildcats lean on Lilly Ingmire, who handled the No. 1 pitching duties last season and led the team in almost every offensive category as well. Bandy described her as “soft spoken, but her bat, glove and arm play very loud,” a combination that makes her one of the most impactful players on the roster. Her quiet demeanor belies the competitiveness she brings to big-game moments.
Behind Ingmire, Bethel has depth with pitcher Presley Nelson, whom Bandy calls “a great pitcher with a high ceiling with the bat” after being a huge contributor at the middle school level and pushing for varsity innings as a freshman. In the outfield, center fielder Kinley Bowles embodies the team’s blue-collar mentality. Bandy said Bowles is “first one in, last one out,” treating every practice and game “like a business trip” while focusing on the small details that others might miss.
Rounding out the group is versatile teammate and standout student Quinn Carpenter, whom Bandy describes as “a wonderful student and teammate” who balances time at the field with showing animals and excelling in the classroom. It is that combination of character and competitive drive that has Bandy excited about what this year’s Lady Wildcats can accomplish.
