Tecumseh High School’s varsity softball team enters the 2025 season with the confidence that comes from experience and a winning tradition. The Lady Savages are coming off a strong 29-10 campaign, and the program’s foundation looks even sturdier with a senior-heavy lineup ready to take on one more run together before graduation.
Head coach Chad Trahan likes what he sees when he looks around the diamond. “We return six starters of which all are seniors this season,” Trahan said, noting that the group’s familiarity with each other should translate into consistency in all phases of the game. Those seniors bring a blend of power, speed and defensive reliability that gives Tecumseh balance throughout the lineup and depth across the field.
One of the key pieces is Maddie Gray, a true two-way threat who sets the tone with both her bat and her wheels. Described in the team notes as a player who “hits for power and great speed,” Gray gives Tecumseh a dangerous presence that can change an inning from the batter’s box or on the bases. Alongside her is Josie Walker, another senior who hits for power and has the speed to pressure defenses while also playing strong defense, adding to the team’s stability.
In the outfield, Kreighton Rigers and Haley Mansell headline a group that covers ground and keeps extra bases to a minimum. Rigers is expected to “play a big role in this years team” as a dependable outfielder, while Mansell brings power at the plate and is praised as an excellent student, underscoring the team’s emphasis on character as well as performance.
In the circle and at first base, Jaycee Townsend provides another cornerstone. A “solid pitcher and 1st baseman” who “hits for power” and is heavily involved in FFA, Townsend embodies the multi-talented profile that runs through Tecumseh’s senior class. With six seniors leading the way and a 29-win season in the rearview mirror, the Lady Savages look poised to again be a force as they chase postseason success.
