Bethel’s Kinley Bowles – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by The West Law Firm

Bethel High School senior Kinley Bowles has built her softball career on a blend of competitiveness, composure and connection with her teammates, all of which she hopes will carry the Lady Wildcats back to the state tournament this season. “What I love most about my team is our drive to improve and our determination to win. Everyone is competitive, and we all share the same goal of getting back to the state tournament this season.”

Bowles, an outfielder who can play anywhere across the grass, said the program’s culture and relationships have defined her high school experience as much as the wins. “I play anywhere in the outfield. What I enjoy most about being on this team is the relationships I’ve built with my teammates and coaches, and getting to play alongside some of my best friends for the past four years.” That sense of community extends beyond the field, where she also represents Bethel in slow-pitch softball and basketball and serves in Student Council and the National Honor Society. “I also play slow-pitch softball and basketball, and I’m a member of Student Council and the National Honor Society.”

Her approach to leadership was shaped by former teammate, whose example still guides Bowles as a senior. “My former teammate Layla Menhusen has had a big impact on me and the kind of teammate and leader I want to be. She was always positive, encouraging, and pushed everyone to be their best. She truly was everyone’s biggest supporter.” Bowles said that same energy is showing up in summer workouts, where veterans and newcomers are focused on the same postseason goal. “Summer workouts are going really well. Everyone is working hard and staying focused on our goals, and the incoming freshmen are coming in ready to work and contribute.”

At home, Bowles draws daily inspiration from her mother’s example. “My mom inspires me the most because she’s always pushing me to be better and supporting me in every way she can. She’s a great example of what it means to be hardworking and dedicated, and I look up to that every day.” That commitment has helped Bowles develop what she considers the foundation of her game: staying steady when the pressure rises. “One of the biggest lessons I learned last year was the importance of mental toughness. I’ve learned to brush things off, not let mistakes get to me, and move forward when things don’t go my way.” It is a strength she continues to refine at the plate. “One of the strengths of my game is my mental toughness and ability to handle pressure. I’m currently working on improving my hitting, especially my slapping.”

As she heads into her final season at Bethel, Bowles hopes her softball journey will extend to the college level. “I hope to continue playing sports in college while working toward earning my degree.”
