Meeker’s Braxton Bussell – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By RibCrib

Success is something that everyone strives for. It does not matter what path you have chosen for yourself,
you want to be successful at what you are doing. High school athletes are no different. They practice and prepare for competition, but Braxton Bussell says that it takes more than just work. “It has taken many things to be successful in sports,” he said. “Hours in the gym, eating right, lifting weights, and hard work. But it has not just been the physical. I have had to mentally push myself past my limits to be successful.”
Braxton is a senior at Meeker High School, where he is a member of the cross-country, football, basketball, and track teams. Playing multiple sports has allowed him to make some great memories on and off the field or court, but he has one moment that stands out as his favorite. “The highlight moment of my career would have to be the buzzer-beater I hit in a conference tournament game,” he recalled. “It was a really cool experience to watch the ball go in as the buzzer sounded and knowing that I had played
a role in our team’s victory.” He has had some really great people to look up to throughout his career, but
Bussell says that there are two people that have had the biggest impact. “Some of my biggest role models are my parents,” he said. “They push me to be great and my mom is a huge influence on my life. Because of the many hours and money, they put into me to be able to play this game and the support they give no matter the outcome.” The guys that he competes alongside are some people that Braxton knows have also helped him be successful. “I have some outstanding teammates,” Bussell stated. “I enjoy working against Treyvon Compton the most in practice because he really helps me improve defensively and we help make each other better. I’d say the least appreciated player on our team would be Ean Watham, he’s a guy that really does the dirty work that goes unnoticed and will work hard on and off the court for our team.”
