Q&A with FCA All-State selection, Shawnee grad Logan Cash – Presented by RibCrib

VVPE: How did it feel to win the heavyweight wrestling state championship?
Logan Cash: It felt amazing, to know all the hard work and dedication that I had put forth and sacrifices I made throughout the year finally paid off. I was able to bring something home to Shawnee that we hadn’t had in a while, which was incredible.

VYPE: What preparation and training were key in your success?
LC: Definitely the extra drilling and working on key areas constantly played a huge role as well as mental preparation. Knowing that my opponents weren’t out working me and didn’t have the resources or partners that my coaches and family were providing for me were huge factors. Also keeping my faith in God, knowing that either way it didn’t define me but if I worked hard his favor would be upon me.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
LC: The sport of Wrestling has taught me that no matter what obstacles you face or what adversity hits you just gotta keep rolling with the punches and move forward.

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?
LC: My passion for wrestling grew through watching my older brothers pursue the sport. Seeing how hard they worked and how incredible winning felt when it was a 1 on 1 matchup, and even more so how much losing hurt.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
LC: My older two brothers, Gunner and Jake, were huge inspirations for me. Both helped coach me along the way during the summer and season.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?
LC: My favorite memory in wrestling besides the obvious State championship win was probably The Carl Albert Tournament. I took a big loss two days prior in the Shawnee- Duncan dual by 1 point and ended up costing us the dual and it was at home. I got to avenge the loss in the Carl Albert tourney finals with a 6-0 win which was really cool and had a lot of hype.

VYPE: What is the best advice anyone has given you?
LC: The greatest piece of advice that has been given to me was by coach Nik Turner saying “A set back is nothing more than a set up for a comeback.”

VYPE: How will this advice help you at the collegiate level?
LC: This advice will help me by just being able to recognize that adversity isn’t always as bad as it seems. Sometimes, it kinda lets the suspense build up for a movie scene type moment. We determine how we respond to it.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shout out or say anything to anyone you wish!
LC: Definitely shout out to Coach McCune – truly one of the best head coaches in Oklahoma. Also a shout out to Christien Taylor as the best supporter and teammate a dude can have. These guys pushed me to achieve all my greatest goals.
