OUTLOOK

When coach Matt Jones looks ahead to the new season on the court, several things stand out. From the returning lineup to the youth and experience, there are many positives in Meeker’s corner.

“As we gear up for the upcoming basketball season, there’s a strong sense of excitement surrounding our team. We’re returning all but one player from last year’s squad, which gives us a solid foundation of experience, chemistry, and leadership to build on,” said coach Jones. “Our senior class is especially motivated — a group that has grown tremendously throughout their time in the program and is now ready to leave a lasting legacy. They’ve put in the work, and this season is their opportunity to show just how far they’ve come.”

Kara Casteel

That group includes Anna Standlee (5-8, Sr.) who averaged 11 points and 4.0 rebounds last season, alongside Kara Casteel (5-6, Sr.), Meadow Spencer (5-9, Sr.), Lacy Stafford (5-7, Sr.), Rylee Standlee (5-7, Sr.), and Layla Carter (5-4, Sr.). Casteel accounted for 6.0 points and 5.0 rebounds a game last season with Spencer going off for 8.0 points and 5.0 rebounds. Stafford got in the scoring as well with 4.0 points and 5.0 rebounds.

A pair of talented guards will help solidify the lineup. Emme Gabeau (5-6, Jr.) and Emily Benn (5-5, Jr.) are two guards who can come in and play solid defense while providing a spark on the offensive end of the court. Sophomore Brynlee Gatz (5-7) and freshman Hazel Wahpepah (6-0) are a pair of underclassmen ready to make an impact at the varsity level.

“We’re also looking forward to what our juniors and sophomores will bring to the floor. They add depth, versatility, and energy — key ingredients for a successful season. And lastly, we have a young and promising group of freshmen who are eager to learn and contribute. With this blend of experience and youth, we’re excited for the challenges ahead and confident in the direction our program is heading,” coach Jones said.
