VYPE: What goals do you have for this year in swimming?
Nylena Davis: My goals for this swim year are to not get in my head as much and to just focus on the race itself and to better my times and to encourage all teammates!
VYPE: What has swimming taught you that you use in your daily life?
ND: Swimming has taught me many different things in life – the main one is to not give up when things get hard or tough because Coach Val and Coach Bob have always pushed us to be the best versions of ourselves.
VYPE: What’s your favorite part of being a competitive swimmer?
ND: My favorite part about being a competitive swimmer is mainly all of the different friendships you make from all the different teams and with your own team but also all the people that encourage you to do your best!
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
ND: My older sister Natalie Davis has always inspired me especially with her swimming career herself, because of the amount of dedication and hard work she puts into it.
VYPE: What do you think is the biggest challenge in swimming?
ND: I think, for me, the biggest challenge is getting in your own head before or even during a race because it can mess with your performance.
VYPE: What do you think makes a great swimmer?
ND: I think what will make me a great swimmer is that I push through our really tough workouts and practices, and I work to improve my times and don’t ever give up.
VYPE: Who in your family is the best athlete? Explain.
ND: The best athlete in my family is most likely my older sister, Natalie, mainly because she was recruited to a Division II college in swimming. I’m working to be in Division I.
VYPE: What’s one sport you wish you could play that you don’t already play?
ND: I wish that I could possibly play softball or volleyball, although I also run track.
VYPE: What’s your go-to pregame song?
ND: My “go to” song is “Rich baby Daddy” by Drake and SZA and Sexyy Red, mainly because KK and I kept dancing to it last year at state.
