Coach: Eldon Gentry
22-23 Record: 20-8
After getting knocked out in the regional playoffs last season, the Tecumseh Lady Savages are looking to take that next step and make back to the state tournament for the first time since 2007. Head coach Eldon Gentry has a veteran group that he thinks has the makings of a very good team. “The Lady Savages are looking forward to another successful season with our veteran group,” he said. “We will have six seniors this year and bring back eight of our top 10 players from last season.” Gentry says the leader of this Tecumseh squad is center Reagan Berry (6-1, Sr.). “We will go how Berry goes,” Gentry says. “She has a presence on the floor at all times on both offense and defense. Her basketball IQ is extremely high, and she craves more knowledge of the game all the time. We are really looking forward to good things from her this season.” Another player expected to play a key role for Tecumseh is guard Serenity Jacoway (5-7, Sr.). Gentry says Jacoway often gets overlooked on the court because of her prowess on the softball field. “She is a DI softball commit to UTEP and one of the best softball players in the state,” he says. “She is also a flat out hooper that goes unnoticed sometimes. She is the true definition of a competitor. She hates to lose and is willing to whatever it takes for our team to bring home the victory.” Another key player for Tecumseh this season will be guard Katie Overstreet (5-3, Jr.). Gentry says Overstreet is the most coachable kid he has been around. “She will do anything you ask her to do plus more and never blink,” he says. “No matter the task, she is always willing to do whatever is best for our team.” One underclassman Gentry is excited to get on the floor is forward Janya Bruner (5-9, Fr.). “Janya is the exact definition of an athlete,” Gentry says. “She is lightning fast from end to end and can finish with the best of them. Her length and athleticism are unbelievable which contributes to her also being one of the best young volleyball players around. We are looking forward to great things from her in our program over the next few years.”
