Shawnee’s Natalie Selman – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By The Clinic Pharmacy

Motivation can be a big part of being successful. If you have a goal or goals that you want to achieve, that motivation can be what helps you reach those goals. As a high school athlete, Natalie Selman uses her goals to keep her focused.

“What motivates me the most in swimming is looking at the goals I have set for myself and telling myself the result will all be worth it in the end; by challenging myself to be better than the previous time I dove into the water and raced. Another major thing that motivates me is proving to myself I can accomplish those goals I have personally set.”

Selman is a senior at Shawnee High School, where she is a member of the swimming team. She is also involved with American Energy Swim Club, the National Honor Society, Tri Hi Y, and her church programs and charity work.

There have been a couple of people in Natalie’s life that have had a big role in helping her develop into the person and athlete that she is.

“Someone that would be the biggest influence in my life would be my mom especially in swimming because she is one of the most athletic and hard-working people I know she never gives up and is always feeding her mindset with positive outcomes instead of jumping to the negative side of things,” she said. “A teacher that has had the biggest impact on my life would be my history teacher Mr. Melot. The reason for this is he was very supportive of what his students did inside of the classroom as well as outside of the classroom, he always encouraged us to go into big events but also even the small ones.”

Swimming as a member of the Shawnee swim team is something that makes Selman proud.

“When I am swimming being able to represent my school and community is a great honor and is so meaningful for me, because of the unconditional support they have always shown me and my teammates.”
