Shawnee’s Lillian Satterfield – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by Potawatomi

When Lillian Satterfield steps onto the pitch for the Shawnee High School Lady Wolves, she brings more than athleticism — she brings a sharp mind and a steady voice.

A sophomore on the varsity soccer squad, Satterfield plays both midfield and center back, a dual role that demands equal parts offensive vision and defensive composure. She has embraced the challenge head-on.

“My strength is that I communicate well and that I make smart plays,” Satterfield said. “I want to get better at being more uplifting if we are losing.”

That self-awareness is a hallmark of her approach to the game. Satterfield knows what it costs to compete at the varsity level, where the margins between victory and defeat are razor thin.

“The pressure — one simple mistake could lead to a loss,” she said.

But the pressure hasn’t dimmed her enthusiasm for the sport or her teammates. Satterfield is quick to credit the culture within the Lady Wolves program as a source of strength.

“I love the laughs we share with each other,” she said. “No matter what is going on, we can always have a laugh. My friends, they are very uplifting and find a positive light in everything.”

That spirit extends to how she talks about her teammates. Satterfield singled out first-year player Khalli Sparks as someone who has made a remarkable impression.

“Even though this is her first year playing, she brings so much energy onto the field and never gives up on the ball,” Satterfield said of Sparks. “She has grown so much since the start of the season.”

Beyond the soccer field, Satterfield has her eyes fixed on a clear future. She hopes to attend college and pursue a career as an ultrasound technician, a goal that reflects the same disciplined mindset that guides her on the pitch.

Asked about the single best piece of advice she has received, Satterfield didn’t hesitate.

“Your mindset controls the game,” she said.
