2025 Shawnee Wolves – Football Preview – Presented by Amy Price, Shelter Insurance

SHAWNEE WOLVES

Coach: JASON MADONNA

6-5

OFFENSE

The Wolves return a veteran offensive line that will be essential if Shawnee is to return to the playoffs in 2025. Right guard Kaden Bramlage (6-6, 285, Sr..) was named the Class 5A District 3 offensive lineman of the year as a junior and is a VYPE Top 100 nominee. He returns this season and has an offer list that features numerous NCAA Division I and Division II programs, and that list should only continue to grow as the season progresses. JaQwon Evans (6-6, 285, Sr.) is a three-year starter at right tackle who committed to the University of North Texas over the summer. Look for Evans to have a great senior campaign and gain additional offers across Division I. That senior duo will be opening holes along the line for senior running backs Dayton McClendon (5-9, 185) and Travion Barber II (5-10, 170, Sr.) as the Wolves focus on the run game out of the pistol formation. Last season as a junior at Prague, McClendon rushed for over 1,500 yards and will look even more success behind the stout offensive line at Shawnee. Barber is all about the speed and will help the team as a nickel-back on defense. Returning at quarterback is Zyron Campbell (6-3, 180, Sr.) who passed for 1,300 a season ago and finished with seven touchdowns. Coach Madonna belies both McClendon and Campbell are under recruited and could garner more attention with solid senior campaigns.

DEFENSE

A self-described young and unproven defense, the Wolves will count upon five returning starters on this side of the ball. Along the defensive line, tackle Logan Skelton (6-4, 290, Jr.) was a force as a sophomore racking up 26 tackles, one sack, and four tackles for loss. Skelton will be a problem for opposing offenses spending time in their backfield. Middle linebacker Nolan Ward (6-0, 200, Jr.) totaled 61 tackles last season and will be called upon as a leader that saw quality playing time as a sophomore. Speaking of sophomores, Garrett McCurdy (5-10, 170) is a future star in the Wolves defensive backfield. As a freshman starter, McCurdy totaled 47 tackles and one fumble recovery. An explosive player with the ball in his hands, coach Madonna expects the sophomore playmaker to start offensively too. Braylon Lassiter (6-0, 180, Sr.) has the talent of a next level guy with a high ceiling. His development has been key to making the Shawnee secondary competitive in a pass-happy district. The Wolves will get great tests to open the season as Putnam City North, which reached the second round of the Class 6A-II playoffs last year, comes to town and then a road trip to Class 4A playoff team Ardmore will give Shawnee a nice barometer for the season.
