Throughout an athlete’s career, there are moments that stand out in their memory. These could be a team achievement or a personal accomplishment, but either way they are important to the athlete. Yuro Sewell plays basketball for Seminole High School and he has one game that stands out in particular.
“I think the highlight of my career so far would have to be when I got nine steals in the conference championship game against Chandler,” he recalled. “It was a great feeling to make a big contribution to my team.”
Sewell is a senior at Seminole. He is a multisport athlete, competing in basketball, cross country, and track. Whenever he competes in one of his sports, Yuro says that he is proud to wear the Seminole uniform.
“It means a lot because I am not only playing for myself, but I am playing and representing my school and community. I try to be a good role model on and off the court.”
Yuro has invested a lot to become the athlete and the person that he is today. But he has also had some important people that have been there for him as well.
“It takes a lot of hard work and a good and strong mentality to be successful in sports,” he said. “You also have to have good people around you. My dad, family, and friends all motivate me to become the best version of myself. And my seventh grade teacher/coach Sanford has helped and believed in me since the beginning.”
The teammates that he competes alongside are a group that Yuro really appreciates. They do a great job of helping each other improve and lifting each other up.
“My teammate Justice is someone I enjoy practicing against because we have this friendly competition that pushes both of us to better ourselves,” he said. “One of the more underrated players on our team is Ben Schatzel. Ben has heart and is a hard worker always staying after practice putting in extra work.”
