MCLOUD REDSKINS

Coach: COLIN WATFORD

2-8

OFFENSE

A new era begins at McLoud High School as Colin Watford takes over as head coach. The players who are on the roster are building good chemistry under the new staff and are preparing for a tough schedule. “We’re a team full of a lot of young talent and new faces, with a lot of upside, planning on making a quick turnaround from last year,” said coach Watford. Five starters make their way back to the lineup for the Redskins. Quarterback Phoenix Lopez (6-2, 180, So.) will run the pro-style offense that features a run first mentality. Lopez has the wheels to run the offense, but he will have help from Leroy Thomas (5-11, 175, Sr.) at running back. Also important to the run game is the offensive line. Trey Reid (6-3, 270, So.) will start at center with Jabari Edwards (6-3, 330, Sr.) playing tackle. A pair of tight ends will participate in the road grading as well. Connor Cook (6-2, 200, Sr.) and Brody Smith (6-2, 200, Jr.) can contribute in multiple ways for the offense.

DEFENSE

The defense looks salty as Smith makes his way back to the middle linebacker spot with Lopez playing outside linebacker. Cook and Thomas will see time at linebacker as well giving the Redskins four athletes who will aggressively attack the ball and make plays. Their speed makes them a dangerous group. Tucker Mapira (5-10, 165, So.) will lock up one of the corner spots as Ethan McCartney (5-10, 170, Sr.) will start at free safety. Mapira is becoming more comfortable at his position and will help eliminate the big plays, while McCartney is everything you want in a safety who can read quarterbacks and have the speed to make critical adjustments. The coaching staff includes Shannon Watford, James Edwards, Elijah Bloomer, Cristian Guadarrama, Ty Maxwell, Tyler Martin, Pierce Speed, Chris Becker, and Sirbere Perry.
