Q & A with Shawnee’s Daley Rice Presented by BancFirst Shawnee

VYPE: How did your basketball journey begin?

Daley Rice: My basketball journey started when I was watching my sister play. Her and my dad are the ones who brought it to my attention. I started playing in kindergarten when I was 5.  

VYPE: Do you play any other sports? Are you involved with any other extracurriculars?

DR: I also run cross country and play softball. I am involved in Native American club. 

VYPE: What aspects of the game of basketball do you love most?

DR: An aspect I love the most about basketball is the mental part of the game. The confidence you need in the game to be successful. 

VYPE: What are the greatest lessons you’ve learned through the game of basketball?

DR: Some of the greatest lessons I learned through basketball is not to give up when it gets hard.  Fight for what you want. It is not always given to you. 

VYPE: Three words to describe yourself?

DR: Three words to describe me are hard working, team player, and dedicated. 

VYPE: What’s your favorite color?

DR: My favorite color is blue.

VYPE: What’s a piece of advice a coach or teacher has given you that you won’t forget?

DR: To never let anyone see you’re tired because they won’t care.

VYPE: What’s your favorite subject in school?

DR: My favorite school subject is English.

VYPE: Why is it important to be a student first, athlete second?

DR: If you don’t have good grades you can’t succeed in what you want in basketball because you can’t play. Grades are everything to me because I want to make sure I can do anything and go anywhere because they are good. 

VYPE: What are your future plans and goals?DR: My future plans are to go on to college and get all my degrees in whatever I decide to study and to get a good steady job.
