Prague Lady Red Devils Slowpitch Softball Team Spotlight By Sportzone Athletics

Head coach Dailyn King led the Lady Red Devils to the Class 4A state tournament where they ran into Dale High School who would go on to be state runner-up. This season Prague returns a plethora of players who are hungry to get back to the state tournament and prove they are good enough to be crowned champions.

Coach King returns eight of 10 starters from that state tournament team including Liyah Dauman (Jr.), an outfielder with excellent speed and range. At the plate Dauman is the leadoff hitter and an excellent base runner. Coach King said the upperclassmen make up a strong portion of the team this season.

“We have a strong upper-class team this season and feel that with their experience and the work they have put in throughout their time has put them in position to have a great spring season. As coaches we are all excited and proud to see it all come together and for the girls to get to find and have the success that follows the effort and time they have committed to the team and themselves,” said King.

Tessa Cooper (Sr.) is another player with experience who makes her return to the field. A hard worker in and out of the classroom, Cooper brings senior leadership to the dugout and is a fierce competitor on the field. Four-year starter Alexis Thompson (Sr.) is back  as well with fellow seniors Jaylee Friend and Maddie Ott.

The juniors include Adyson Custar, Kinsey Rice, Taby Cooper, Kailey Rich, Lexsey Trevizo, Halle Merritt, Emma Williams, and Mikola Ake. The two sophomores are Jadyn Hightower and Ella Simek. The freshmen include Kasey Cantrell and Katie Ott.

Coach King currently has the team ranked No. 2 overall in Class 4A behind No. 1 Pocola. The only loss on the schedule was during the season opener against Class 5A Tecumseh. Since that day the Lady Red Devils have won nine straight games going into the month of April.
“We feel that if we as a whole maintain our focus and continue to trust the process and preparation, we will be back in with the same opportunity at the state tournament this year ready to fight for the title,” said King.

Big games left on the schedule include Chandler, Cushing, Kellyville, and Dale who is competing in Class 3A this season.

The regular season will end on April 25th, at home against Stratford.
