Bethel’s Raegan Curry – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Valentine Insurance Group

With his senior football season coming to an end earlier this semester, Bethel High School’s Raegan Curry has spent his past 10 falls playing football — and learned a few lessons along the way.

“There’s nothing that can get between you and your team,” Curry said. “A football team is the strongest bond that can be formed, and almost nothing can break it.”

Curry also learned a pivotal lesson about attention to detail, which he credits to his coaches.

“I’ve never been the most athletic or the fastest kid on the field so I’ve had to learn to use my head and think outside of the box to try and get my job done,” Curry said. “Coaches always taught me that the little things matter when playing a team sport, so I always worked on perfecting every little aspect of my game. Film played a very big role in this part of my career. Watching myself and fixing my errors through film felt like it started to excel my game.”

Curry’s brother, Cody, played in high school, which introduced him to the sport when he was 8 years old.

“[Cody] only played for 2 years, but I always loved watching him. After he graduated, I felt like I just had to play,” Curry said. “I was eager to play, but I was not good at the beginning. I never had a set position playing through little league, and it was tough for me. I stopped playing for a year in middle school. It wasn’t until eighth grade, my comeback year, that I started to shine. . . I had started to gain a little bit of height and speed, which I started to see improvements on the field.”

Curry aspires to play to at least year 11 at the collegiate level. The words determined, eager and driven carry meaning for him. Coaches should expect to recruit a “player that wants to be put on the map.”

“This sport means so much to me, and I don’t really want to give it up yet, so anywhere that’s willing to give me a chance is guaranteed a ball-player.”
