Bethel Wildcat Baseball
With three starters back and a wave of new arms and transfers, Bethel High School’s varsity baseball team enters the spring with heightened expectations and a renewed sense of depth under head coach Gary Bandy.
“Returning three starters, and numerous arms. We had numerous transfers that we are hoping can make a huge impact,” Bandy said. The Wildcats will lean on that blend of experience and fresh talent as they navigate a challenging schedule and look to make a deep postseason push.
Senior right-hander Zane Anderson anchors the pitching staff as the team’s No. 1 on the mound, bringing proven production and poise. Bandy expects Anderson’s “plus stats” to translate into many wins, both on the hill and in the batter’s box, where he will also be a key contributor.
Behind Anderson, Bethel features a versatile core capable of impacting games in multiple ways. Junior standout Zack Jennings is a leader on and off the field, a middle-of-the-lineup bat who can play anywhere defensively and is slated to serve as the Wildcats’ No. 2 pitcher this spring. Outfielder and left-handed pitcher Zerick Beesley adds another dynamic dimension with his plus hitting ability and tremendous speed, giving Bethel a threat at the plate, on the bases and on the mound.
In the infield, middle-of-the-order hitter Weston Henry will lock down the corner spots while providing a reliable bat-to-ball skill set that Bandy calls a major asset in the clubhouse. Henry’s presence in the heart of the order is expected to help drive the offense and stabilize the infield defense.
Senior right fielder Gavin Lynch returns after starting every game at the position last season and is projected to reprise that role. Lynch also slots into the middle of the lineup, giving the Wildcats yet another experienced run producer in crucial situations.
While not every leader shows up in the box score, Bandy points to player Kadenn May as a tone-setter for the program. May is described a player who will “run through a wall for his teammates, coaching staff, school and community,” embodying the culture Bethel hopes will carry it through the spring.
With its mix of veteran leadership, lineup depth and an expanded pitching staff, Bethel’s varsity baseball team believes it has the pieces to contend and the mindset to make this season a memorable one.
