Tecumseh’s Atley Hill
Tecumseh’s Atley Hill basketball journey started at a very young age. She began playing when she was around four years old, then took a break before picking it back up again in sixth grade. Since then, basketball has been a constant in her life, shaping both who she is on the court and who she is off it.
On the court, Atley is versatile. She usually plays the three or four position, but she prides herself on being able to step in anywhere her team needs her. One of her biggest strengths is her mindset during intense moments. That calm demeanor allows her to stay focused, even during high intensity games.
“I’m most confident in my ability to handle pressure. I don’t get overwhelmed by it and it is a lot more fun when the game is intense,” she said.
Like many athletes, Atley has faced challenges in the sport. There were times when she struggled with the feeling of not being good enough, but she refused to let that stop her. She always pushes herself to work harder and to get better all the time. Before games, she prepares mentally by grounding herself. She tells herself to trust in God and to have fun.
Atley describes her role on the team as a hustle player and supporter. She is willing to do whatever it takes to win while also encouraging her teammates to play to the best of their abilities.
She looks up to Kobe Bryant because of his dedication and constant effort. One of the biggest lessons basketball has taught her is that success requires action. “You have to work hard to receive rewards,” she explained.
Off the court, Atley is equally focused. She stays on top of her academics by taking class time seriously and using spare time to complete assignments. One achievement she is especially proud of is earning her letterman jacket. Her coaches and teachers always stress the importance of school. They tell her and her teammates that effort in the classroom reflects effort on the team. This year, Atley’s goals include earning high A’s and scoring a four on her AP English exam.
After graduation, Atley plans to become a hairstylist, but basketball will always remain part of her life. If she gets the chance to continue playing in any way, she would at the college level.
