Bethel’s Darius Cheatham – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Firelake Pizza

Bethel’s Darius Cheatham

Bethel High School junior Darius Cheatham is known for a couple of things on the basketball court. Bethel head coach Caleb Fulton said Cheatham has “good ball handling skills and very good vision.” He’s also a leader on an off the court for Bethel. Coach Fulton would go on to say that he expects Cheatham to flourish this season with an enhanced role on the team.

Cheatham starter playing basketball in the first grade and has loved the sport ever since. Being around his teammates and competing with them while representing BHS is something special for this junior.

“I would say last year when we stayed at a house for the Kingston tournament and we had a 2k blacktop tournament,” Cheatham said. “The community is very supportive and welcoming, the teachers are amazing and encourage you to be better every day, they help you with anything you need.”

Cheatham said several of his teammates have impressed him in early practices leading into the new season.

“I’m really impressed with everyone on my team for constantly being motivated and pushing through the hard things and keeping a positive attitude even when we aren’t doing so good.”

Two former teammates left an impression on the program and on Cheatham.

“RJ Morris and Bray Bussel, two seniors from last year left an impression on me taking me under their wing and always making me better,” Cheatham said. “I love our culture and the way we always hold each other accountable for our actions, I wouldn’t trade our team for any other team.”

Also a track athlete, Cheatham said his favorite subject in school is Math or English. One day he hopes to attend college and possibly continue to play basketball.

“I plan on going to college to play basketball. I plan on joining the medical field and studying to become a physical therapist.”
