OUTLOOK

This is a team that will be in the mix come October. “[We’re] looking to keep rolling and plan to make another push to get back to the state tournament,” head coach Chance Griffin said. The Cougars return five starters from last year’s state semifinal team. It starts with the Campbell triplets. Sarah Campbell (C, Sr.) and Morgan Campbell (SS, Sr.) are both Grand Canyon University commits. Molly Campbell (OF, Sr.), is committed to Oklahoma Christian. Sarah batted .474 with 17 doubles, seven home runs, 14 runs and 42 RBIs. Morgan batted .479 with 17 doubles, six triples, four home runs, 47 runs, 42 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. She was good for nine doubles, six home runs, 26 runs and 34 RBI last year. Sophie Morris (INF, Jr.) and Laynee Joyner (OF, Jr.) make up the rest of the team’s returning starting cast. Morris batted .431 and scored a scorching 54 runs to go with 29 RBIs. Joyner was responsible for 31 runs, 18 RBI and 16 stolen bases while batting .365 last year. Hadley Gates (P, Jr.) looks to pick up more duties this year after she posted an OBA of .464 last year. Griffin expects several sophomores to make a significant impact on the team’s success this year. Taylor Bailey (1B, So.), Izzy O’Daniel (INF, So.), Aubree Shivelhood (OF, So.) and Ashlyn Bade (C/INF, So.) each saw playing time last year, with Shivelhood and O’Daniel combining for 87 total runs.
