Players to Watch
Football
Austin Melson – Bethel
Austin has started at linebacker for Bethel since his freshman year. He has totaled 354 tackles over his first three years and will continue to be a force this season.
Colton Sullivan – Bowlegs
Sullivan is a very quick and fast back that runs downhill and is very tough to tackle. Last year was his first year to play football so he is still learning everyday. The last half of the season, the opponent’s defensive game plans seemed to be centered around him from the slot and running back spot.
Malachi Henderson – Holdenville
He is explosive and has a chance to take it to the house on any given play. Henderson has just enough wiggle that if you give him space, he will put on a track show.
Shaun Hill – McLoud
Great athlete and competitor. Always makes plays in big time moments in multiple different ways. Dangerous with the ball in his hands and can take it away and score on defense.
Treyvon Compton – Meeker
Treyvon is going into his second season as a full-time starter at quarterback and into his fourth season starting in the secondary. During his career, he has thrown for 4,530 yards, rushed for 895 on offense, while accumulating 126 tackles and has eight interceptions on defense.
Caleb Hawkins – North Rock Creek
He is the leader of the team and elevates the play of his teammates. He is a difference maker and an exciting player that makes things happen on both sides of the ball.
John Ryan High – Shawnee
John Ryan is a key player for the Shawnee football program. He is a three-year starter, John is a veteran leader on and off the field, constantly encouraging others and uplifting his teammates. He is a model student in the classroom and excels academically.
Darrien Clark & Kaseon Pine – Tecumseh
Clark will cover the best wide receiver every game. He is long and rangy, and excels in man coverage, and understands zone concepts. Mismatch with his height on deep balls. Pine is a great route runner and can be very elusive. He has tremendous hands and will compete for all catches. Student of the game and he knows what is going to happen before it happens.
Softball
Layla Menhusen – Bethel
Layla is a clutch player. She came up with several big hits in key moments last fall. She’s very good behind the plate and a big time leader.
Miley Hicklin – McLoud
Miley is coming off a season where she had nearly 100 strikeouts in the circle as a freshman. She started every game last year as a freshman in the circle or at shortstop. She is looking to have a big sophomore season and improve on her success from last season.
Volleyball
Keylee Landes – North Rock Creek
Keylee is an incredible student athlete who demonstrates leadership ability on and off the court. As an athlete, she works hard and is a play-maker. In her junior season, Keylee was a go-to when her team needed a big play, and she delivered.
Underclassmen to Watch
Football
Maddox Davis – Bethel
Maddox was sort of thrown to the fire last year at times, including getting to start week 10 against Jones. He threw for 220 yards in 3 TDs in limited time as a freshman and ran the ball 12 times for 107 yards. Defensively he had 34 tackles, four pass break ups.
Cayden Milner – Bowlegs
Played quarterback for the first time last year as a freshman. He has great poise and does not get rattled. Really makes his reads and does not get hurried in the pocket. As he gets more experience and matures he will be a very special athlete.
Abe Gomez – Holdenville
Abe is a strong athlete that works hard all the time. Along with playing football, he is also a powerlifter. That will help him be a successful athlete.
Kingston Trevino – McLoud
A smooth and tall athlete that excels on both sides of the ball. Good ball skills and a great feel for the game
Roanon Wolford – Meeker
Roanon started every game his freshman season at linebacker. He amassed 114 tackles as a freshman with 14 tackles for loss. This year he will be expected to help carry the load in the run game with a very physical running style.
Brodie Grace – North Rock Creek
Brodie could have an impact in a couple of positions this year. He plays linebacker and halfback.
Logan Skelton – Shawnee
Last season, Logan became the first freshman to start for Shawnee in many years when he opened up the year as the starting nose guard for the defense. He will start on both sides of the ball this season and will have an impact on the season.
Bill Stephens – Wewoka
Stephens is an incoming freshman that is really athletic. He has worked hard to get where he is and he will continue to get better.
Softball
Bailey Tucker – Bethel
She started at shortstop as a freshman last season. She has great range and a great arm, and is also very good at the plate. She is a tough out.
Kayce Higdon – McLoud
Kayce is looking to be a major piece in the lineup going into her freshman season. She has had a productive summer at the plate and is playing third base.
Volleyball
Ally Fichtner – North Rock Creek
Ally embodies athleticism and does what it takes to be a champion. She pushes herself, and coaches are excited to see how she grows and shines in this upcoming season.
