9 Questions with Shawnee’s Serenity Casteel Presented by Natalie Arnett State Farm

VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?

Serenity: I am a junior at Shawnee High School. I play volleyball, basketball, and I am on the track team.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Serenity: One thing basketball has taught me is resilience. Basketball is a game of ups and downs. You’re going to miss shots, make mistakes, and face setbacks. But basketball has taught me to bounce back, learn from my mistakes, and keep going.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Serenity: Here’s my favorite thing about representing my high school as an athlete: it’s about more than just the game. It’s about being part of something bigger than myself. It’s about wearing the colors I’m wearing and knowing that I’m representing my school, my community, and all the people who have supported me along the way.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Serenity: My favorite teacher is my middle school math teacher Mrs.Farris, she always made sure we understood what she was teaching us and helped us when we needed her!!

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Serenity: The best advice that someone has given me would probably be “Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is just a stepping stone to success”

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to and why?

Serenity: The athlete that I have looked up to since I was little is Steph Curry. He’s changes the way basketball is played, by showing that you can still impact the game even if you’re not the tallest or strongest player on the court.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Serenity: My all-time favorite meal would have to be a chicken quesadilla with rice

VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?

Serenity: I am also involved with Shawnees Native American Club!

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Serenity: I would like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout all my sports, taking me to all my practices and coming to all my games, and just always being by my side. Also Shoutout to my little sister Bella for supporting  me throughout all my sporting events! I would like to thank Coach E and Coach Twon for helping develop my game and helping me become the player that I am today. I would also like to thank Coach Wells for pushing me during the school season and helping me learn more about the game.
