In the town of McLoud, Geronimo Hastings isn’t just another high school baseball player; he’s a young man on a mission, driven by family, mentors and a passion for the game. As a senior at McLoud High School, Geronimo’s journey in baseball has been shaped by personal motivations and the support of those around him.
Geronimo’s dedication to baseball is deeply rooted in his desire to set a positive example for his little brother: “I’m trying to set an example for him, whether it’s in life or baseball.”
Surrounded by a supportive network, Geronimo acknowledges the pivotal role his parents have played in his life. “My biggest influences in my life are my parents. They’ve been my biggest supporters,” he said. Additionally, he draws inspiration from his former teammate, Jaden King, who has been a mentor since Geronimo’s freshman year.
Doc Smith, a figure of guidance in Geronimo’s life, provides him with valuable advice. “He always tells me to follow my goals and stay humble,” Geronimo noted.
The rivalry with Perkins-Tryon adds an extra layer of excitement to the game for Geronimo. “It’s always a good, competitive game when we play them. And when we beat them, it feels good.”
Geronimo takes a moment to appreciate a teammate who may not always receive the spotlight. “The least appreciated player on my team is Hayden McWethy. He is always working hard and is there the days that he doesn’t have to be there, getting reps in,” Geronimo acknowledged, shedding light on the unsung heroes behind the scenes.
As a fan of Shohei Ohtani, Geronimo finds inspiration beyond his immediate circle. Ohtani’s versatility and skill resonate with him, contributing to his admiration for the game.
For Geronimo, wearing the uniform of McLoud High School extends beyond personal achievement. “It means a lot to represent my school as well as the community. I’m setting an example for surrounding schools and communities.”
As Geronimo Hastings approaches the culmination of his high school baseball journey, he leaves an incredible mark—a player defined by hard work, family values and a commitment to being a positive force both on and off the field.
