2023 Bethel Lady Wildcats Basketball Preview – Presented by The Clinic Pharmacy

BETHEL LADY WILDCATS

GIRLS

Coach: Tara Satterfield

22-23 Record: 25-4

Following a trip to the state tournament last season, the Bethel Lady Wildcats will look to make it three straight trips this season. However, head coach Tara Satterfield knows that it will be tough this season. “After graduating three starters, and five seniors overall, we want to continue building on the strong foundation they set,” said Satterfield. “We return our leading scorer, best defender, and some key pieces from our success last season. We will have a tough schedule again, and we are embracing the challenges ahead of us.” Despite the losses, Bethel should be in prime position to have success. Returning for the Lady Wildcats is guard Josie Megehee (5-10, Jr.). She averaged 20.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.6 steals last season for the Lady Wildcats. “She made her commitment to play basketball at the University of Tulsa this summer,” Satterfield said. “She one of the most competitive players I’ve ever coached. Her will to win is unmatched. She is a playmaker on the offensive end and can score in multiple ways. She also guards the other team’s best players on most nights and leads by example while being a great teammate.” Also returning is Brooklyn Duff (5-7, Sr.). While not a big scorer, she plays tough defense and drew 42 charges last year. “She’s as tough as they come,” Satterfield said. “She led the state in charges taken last year despite being undersized in the post. She’s our catalyst on the defensive end.” One young player Satterfield expects to make that next step this season is Lexi Tucker (5-10, So.). Tucker averaged 3.3 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game last year and Satterfield thinks those numbers will go up. “Lexi is a 5-foot-10 guard/forward that we anticipate having a breakout year,” Satterfield said. “She hit some big shots for us last year as a freshman, but her role will be much bigger this year.” Other players expected to play a key role for Bethel will be Baylee Tapley (5-9, Jr.), Ava Gascon (5-5, So.), and Layla Menhusen (5-10, So.).
